Hosting FAQs
Here are a summary of some
of our frequently asked questions which should help you on your
way with deciding on a hosting plan from us, or transferring a
domain to us. IF you have any questions following these then please
do not hesitate to contact us.
1) What Is Web Hosting?
We offer domain web hosting and email services. This means that we provide
space on our servers for your web site and email. We can register a new domain
name for you, or host an existing domain name, which will be used for your
web site and email.

2) Can
I host multiple domains under one hosting plan?
Yes, you can have as many domains as you wish allocated
to the same hosting plan. For instance, if both domain1.com and domain2.com
were on the same plan, if you went to their web sites, they would load
the same content since they are sharing the resources of that hosting
plan.
Each Additional Domain is priced at £10.00
Per year to host

3) How do I purchase
a domain name / hosting plan?
Once you are happy with the hosting plan that is
suitable for you, you can order a hosting plan from our Online Order
section from the link provided at the top of every page of "Purchase
Online".
Once we have received and setup your hosting plan
order, you will be informed of the hosting plan's login details.
Plans are normally setup within a few hours during
normal working hours of the week. You are not billed until the hosting
plan is successfully setup and all is working.
If you wish to purchase a hosting plan and a transfer
a domain over, you may do so by following the method in.

4) Which operating systems
do you use on your servers?
We run both UNIX and Windows based servers for
maximum flexibility. Our UNIX machines are predominately FreeBSD based
with Sun Solaris being used in some particularly high load situations.
Our Windows systems run the Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server operating
system.

7) What happens if I
go over my bandwidth / disk space limit?
Our hosting plans are designed so that the bandwidth
allocated for you web site is sufficient for the resources provided.
However, you can view how much disk space and data transfer you have
been using, and indeed predicted to use that month, online via your
control panel. It is important you monitor this to ensure that you
do not incur excess charges unnecessarily. If you are likely to exceed
your quota you can either pay the extra charges, request that we
suspend your account, or upgrade prior to the end of the month to
increase your quotas.

Terminal Services?
Yes. As this grants root access to the server any

The server is yours to install any programs or

support for software which you install or on modifications which you
make, if you do ask us to provide technical support in such circumstances

make a charge for doing so.

15) Transferring
a .com / .net / .org / .info (Windows Standard Plans)
There are several methods in which you can point
your domain to our servers. Firstly, you can ask your previous host
to point your domain to our name servers but leave them ultimately
responsible for billing and renewals for it. The correct name servers
for your account are listed on your welcome email from us. If you
are unsure please check with us first before requesting any changes.

| Secondary Nameserver |
ns2.interdns.co.uk |

The alternative is to transfer the domain to
our full control. This requires ICUK to send out what is known as
a 'Domain Transfer Request' email to the 'admin' contact set for
your domain. This is normally your hosting company but can easily
be yourself. If you are unsure we can find out for you and advise
you from there.
Before a domain transfer request can be sent
out we request that the following list of points are read and understood
carefully. If your domain fails to match any of these points the
request cannot be sent:
The rules for transferring
.com / .net / .org domains are:
- The domain must have been registered for more than 60 days.
- The current admin contact must be able to confirm the transfer.
- The domain name must not be 'on hold' with the current registrar.
The domain could be on hold for payment issues, renewal issues
etc.
- The domain must be at least 40 days from its renewal date.
- The domain must be in an ACTIVE state and not locked from domain
transfers.
Transferring a domain is included in your hosting
plan charges with us (Email Only plans excluded). We will help you
and give you advice on anything you are not sure on.

16) Transferring
a .co.uk / .org.uk / .ltd.uk (Windows Standard Plans)
To move a .uk domain you can either supply your
previous host with the new name servers (listed in your welcome email).
This will leave them still in control of your domain and they will
bill you for future renewal charges associated to it. If you are
unsure which name servers you should be using please contact domains@icukhosting.co.uk.
Alternatively you can change your IPS Tag to
'ICUK'. This will place control of your domain over to ICUK. All
future renewal charges are included in your hosting plan price. Simply
ask your previous host to make the change and inform us once you
have notified them. We will only update name servers if instructed
by yourself. They are not changed automatically.

17) Can I have my
own COM object installed?
Unfortunately due to the nature of the shared
environment we are unable to install COM objects on a per user basis.
You might like to consider our Plus hosting plans or your own Dedicated
server.
